Happy Birthday Mam Nicole!

This week, we studied about Factor and Remainder Theorem. The two theorems are just derived from one formula. You will just use the same method for finding the remainder of factor of the polynomial. It was just easy for me because I studied it last summer all by myself.

We also planned in making the math bulletin board. The whole class is doing their very best to make the bulletin board exemplary and so that the bulletin board will not be changed every month instead it will there the whole year and we will just change the contents every month.

It was Thursday at 4 o'clock when the take home quiz was announced that it was moved. We are all exhilarated that the quiz was rescheduled because the next day will a busy day for Nutrition Month activities.

Coincidentally, the next day, Friday was also the birthday of our math teacher, Mam Nicole so the whole class decided to buy a cake and captioned it happy 6th anniversary of your 18th Birthday to make it sound that Mam Nicole is young but in reality she is 24 years old. After that, the whole class went to the Math Lab and sang the birthday song for our math teacher, accompanied by a guitar and a ukulele played by Oyi and Harold respectively. This showed that we are happy for Mam Nicole as our math teacher which has a lot more exciting and better class than our previous math teacher, Mam V.

I am looking forward in learning more in Math and I hope that I will have a better score in the next quiz than before. That's all for the week. Till the next time.

Salary Scheme

It was Sunday, 11 am when we made a salary scheme at Magoo’s House for the most ideal job of an employee and an employer to have. First, we decided that we are a car company that offers hiring for a sales representative. After that, we found out that the average salary of a car sales representative is Php 5000 a month but we have settled to base the salary of a the employee on the minimum wage of an employee per day, which is Php 7000 per month, so that it is realistic. Then later all of us took our lunch at McDonalds and while we’re eating we are planning on what else to add in our scheme to make it best among the others. At 1 o’clock in the afternoon, we resumed to the building of our scheme. We added benefits like having a company car, health, dental & life insurance, a 13th month pay and an end of contract pay for the employee to enjoy staying in our company.

Then Monday, was the performance day. We are the 3rd group to perform and discuss our salary scheme. Every group was asked to answer 3 questions from Mam Nicole or Mam V or from my fellow classmates and we successfully answered every question that was thrown to us. There was only a little flaw in our scheme, we had not include the things that we are adding during our discussion. During the grading, we got a 95.5 and we are the 2nd highest. The only thing that made our grade low is because of the LOW scores of that our fellow classmates had given to us which is ironically we are the highest in presentation and salary scheme while 2nd to the lowest in the HR decision. I think, they had given us a low score because they don’t want us to succeed and they don’t want other groups surpassing their grade. That attitude they just showed is just completely bitterness, being grade conscious and having unhealthy competition with others. Not because your group did not get the highest score doesn’t mean you HAVE to make the scores of others as same as yours. You have to engrave in your mind that the reason why we humans doesn’t get successful easily is because most people do not want you to and they want to see you fail. I think being bitter in life doesn’t help in being a better person instead it just makes yourself selfish, bad and pessimistic.

Then Wednesday, we studied long division of polynomials. It was just way though quite long and time consuming compared to synthetic division. I thought in my mind that math must make thing complicated things easier not the other way around but I realized that we must first study basic things before studying more complicated ones. It is like you must learn how to stand before trying to walk and you must learn how to walk before trying to run or else… You will not understand everything to want to know.

Then Thursday, we tackled about synthetic division and it was very easy when the divisor is binomial but quite difficult when the divisor is trinomial. It was just a piece of cake and only a recap for me because I studied it last summer all by myself.

Then it was FRIDAY, the whole class was exhilarated when it was announced that we had no classes in math but we have to answer 20 problem sets on Tuesday at home. That's  just what we did this week. Till we meet again amigos…=)

Harmonic and Fibonacci

We had no classes last Monday because of our city mayor's announcement about the cancellation of classes due to typhoon
.
The next day, we had a lecture about Harmonic and Fibonacci sequences. Harmonic sequences are just the reciprocal of arithmetic sequence while Fibonacci sequence is a sequence that starts from either 1 or 0 and you can get the next term by adding the two preceding terms. We also discussed about the sum of an infinite geometric sequence. By the way, the formula for that is S= a1/1-r where r must be greater than -1 and less than 1.

The following day, we had a quiz, a ten item quiz that is good answering only in 30 minutes. I only got 15 out of 20 because of carelessness. I got the correct answer in the solution which is 206,668 but I wrote 20668 and the other one that I was wrong at is because of wrong analysis of problem, the problem asks for the sum but I solved for the nth term. What I did was very regretful. Next time, I will always triple check on my answers so that I will never have regrets on having low scores because of carelessness.

Truly Deserved It

This week we discussed about geometric sequence which includes finding its nth term, geometric mean and its sum. I think all of us understood the lesson well and we easily answered every question that our teacher gave us.

There was an instance during our math class when we are given an activity in the book because our teacher, Mam Nicole was called because I think she's taking a test for promotion of teachers.
Before she went to take the promotion test. She told us, especially the girls to wear red clothes and red lipstick obviously for the girls only to hide our fears and nervousness. Lastly she asked us to pray for her and we all did.

As I finished the test easily, one of my classmates, Jeaza, shouted that the answer is at the bottom of the activity and we are all surprised that there is really an answer. But I only realized it when I'm done answering the activity.

It was our first subject, Science, in the afternoon when Mam Nicole butted in during our class and said "Thank You guys for praying." After she said those lines, we all shouted and cheered for victory as if our math teacher had successfully answered a life changing question that saved the world. But the real reason behind those smiles and cheers is that we believed that Mam Nicole was promoted and we all know she deserves it.

Arithmetic Sequences In Real Life

Last week our teacher asked us make a script for the role play about arithmetic sequence in real life.

Today was our performance day. First, our teacher asked one representative from each group to write his group number in a piece of paper. The paper will be jumbled and the each representative will pick one paper to know what will be the order of the group that will perform.

We are the third group that will be performing. The first to groups had an undeniable excellent play. The first group had a musical style of showing arithmetic sequences while the second group made us of the game deal or no deal to show sequences.

So the pressure of doing better than they did is on us. Our play is also unique because it is patterned of the well known comedy show which is Banana Split. We added hugot lines to make the show more lively & entertaining than the others. Our first example of arithmetic sequence is the taxi fare. As your go farther your fare increases in a constant rate. Second is the pay for the rent and the water bill. He was increased by Php 200 each suceeding year. And last was the coffee. First, Magoo bought one sachet of coffee. Then I bought 2 sachets with a hugot line involved. Sally the tindera told me "Bale Php 14 pesos lahat." and I replied with a hugot line "Lahat! Binigay ko na nga ang lahat lahat eh. Utak ko, puso ko, oras ko, at panahon ko. Binigay ko na nga ang lahat kahit walang natira sa akin eh. Pero ano? May nangyari ba? WALA!!! Dahil kahit kelan hinding hindi niya mapapalitan ang pagmamahal na inalay ko sa kanya." Then I as ended those lines, my classmates roared with applause and cheers. They can not believe that I could said that lines. I could not believe it either myself. The audiences continued to happily applause as we ended our play. The next day, the grades are announced. We had a 94. The highest grade was 96. We are only in second place. We may not be the highest in terms of grade but we know in ourselves that we did our very best to make our performance transcend over others. At the end we are still satisfied and happily accepted our grade.
